We had the chance to speak with Eulalia, our passionate Nursery Manager at Fennies Wimbledon, Elm Grove. With a vibrant and hands-on approach, Eulalia is passionate about creating a nursery environment where children can feel supported, valued and inspired to learn. I am one of the most dedicated people you will meet, and I take real pride in everything I do. I pay close attention to detail and always want to make sure that I am giving my best to the children, families and team around me. I care deeply about my work, and that passion is something I bring with me every day.

What helps you stay connected with your communities?

I believe that staying connected with the community is often about the small actions we take every day. Showing respect for the people and environment around us is really important to me, and I try to encourage this within the nursery. By being thoughtful about how we interact with our local community and the world around us, we can help children begin to understand the importance of respect and making a positive difference.

What’s something you have loved about your Early Years Career so far?

One of the things I have loved most about my Early Years career is realising just how precious every moment can be. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces every day is incredibly special and continues to inspire me. Whether it is a small moment of discovery, a new achievement or simply seeing a child arrive with a smile, these moments remind me how rewarding it is to work with young children.

What’s your ambition to help improve the Early Years Sector?

My ambition is to build a thriving setting where the team feels supported, valued and confident in their roles, while families feel involved in their children’s learning experiences. I believe that when educators feel empowered and parents feel connected, children benefit from a stronger, more consistent experience. I want to continue creating an environment where everyone feels part of the nursery community and is able to contribute to the children’s development.

How do you create parent partnerships at Fennies Wimbledon, Elm Grove?

For me, strong parent partnerships begin with communication from the very start. I make sure I take the time to speak with families when they first join us and build those relationships through everyday conversations, greeting parents as they arrive, sharing regular updates through Famly and keeping families informed about events at the nursery. I believe that making time for parents and maintaining open communication helps them feel involved in their child’s experience and creates a stronger partnership between home and the setting.

What’s one impact you like to make on the team atmosphere?

I want my team to feel comfortable coming to speak with me, which is why I have an open-door policy and make sure they know I am here to support them. I understand the reality of working in Early Years and how many different responsibilities the team manages every day, so I think it is important to acknowledge their hard work and make sure they feel valued. I also make time to check in with them regularly to see how they are doing and whether there is anything they need from me.

What’s one way you help to upskill your team?

I bring a vibrant and positive attitude to the team, and I know that my own energy can have an impact on those around me. I want my team to feel that they can rely on me completely for the support and guidance they need, whether that is through practical help, encouragement or sharing my own knowledge and experience. I believe that by being a positive role model and creating an environment where people feel supported, the team can continue learning, developing and growing in confidence.

Why did you choose to work in Early Years Education?

I have wanted to work in education since I was 17. I initially completed work experience in a school, but quickly realised that it was not the right environment for me. From there, I began working in Early Years, and the rest is history. I discovered a real passion for working with younger children, particularly babies, and I cannot imagine working in any other sector. Although I am now a Nursery Manager, my heart will always be with the children, and being part of their early development continues to be incredibly special to me.

What passions do you have within the Early Years Curriculum?

I am particularly passionate about the prime areas of development and seeing the incredible progress children make from the moment they join us. Watching a baby take their first steps in physical development, from crawling through to walking, or hearing their first words develop into full conversations is truly mind-blowing. These early milestones form the foundation for all the learning children experience at nursery, and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to support them as they grow, develop and achieve each new stage.

What kind of leader are you?

I would describe myself as a hands-on leader who likes to get involved with the children and the team. I would never ask someone to do something that I would not be willing to do myself, and I am always happy to step in and offer support wherever it is needed. I believe that demonstrating this willingness to help is an important part of role modelling high-quality Early Years practice. By leading by example and being actively involved in the day-to-day life of the nursery, I want my team to know that I am always there to support them.

What would you like to achieve in the next six months?

Over the next six months, I would like to create more opportunities for children to engage with the local community and learn about the world around them. I want to organise plenty of events and experiences that allow children to discover things they may not always have the opportunity to experience at home. Helping children develop a greater awareness of their community and the wider world is something I am really passionate about, and I am excited to continue creating these meaningful learning opportunities.

What’s your favourite thing about coming to work?

My favourite thing about coming to work is seeing the children on a Monday morning and hearing all about what they have been doing over the weekend. The fact that they recognise me and come in with a smile still feels so special and can instantly make my day. Seeing their excitement when they arrive and knowing that they are happy to see me is one of the most rewarding parts of my role.

Do you have any exciting visits or upcoming partnerships within the community planned?

We recently welcomed the fire brigade to the nursery, which was a fantastic experience for the children. We also like to use their interests to help shape our trips and experiences, whether that means visiting the local train station because they are fascinated by transport or exploring a farm because they love animals. I think it is important to follow what excites the children and create opportunities for them to experience the world around them in meaningful ways.

What’s the best thing about Fennies Wimbledon, Elm Grove?

The team is one of the best things about Fennies Wimbledon, Elm Grove. Everyone has been so welcoming, and their positivity and support helped me settle into the nursery so quickly. The parents also regularly comment on how wonderful the team is, which I think says so much about the environment they create every day. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a happy and supportive team.
