Rowing The Atlantic To Make A Difference: Supporting The Southsea Scullers

Later this year, three close friends will take on one of the most demanding endurance challenges in the world. The World’s Toughest Row crosses the Atlantic Ocean, beginning in the Canary Islands and finishing in Antigua. The Southsea Scullers will be rowing every mile themselves, sharing long days and nights at sea in a small ocean rowing boat. It is a challenge that relies on resilience, cooperation and a calm approach in changing conditions.

Fennies is proud to support the Southsea Scullers with a £10,000 sponsorship as they prepare for this remarkable journey. There is a personal connection behind our support. Bradley Fenn, our very own Business Development Director,  went to school with Adam and played rugby with Henry. He also played rugby with Seb, whose passing in 2016 at the age of 20, inspired the creation of The Seb Foundation. The foundation helps young people access opportunities in sport and education that might otherwise be out of reach. It aims to help young people grow in environments that support their potential. We are honoured to help bring further awareness to this mission.

Alongside the Seb Foundation, this challenge will also raise funds for MSA Trust and Cure Parkinson’s. MSA Trust supports individuals and families affected by Multiple System Atrophy, and one of the rowers has a relative living with the condition, making this support deeply personal. Cure Parkinson’s focuses on research that works toward developing better treatments and moving closer to a future where Parkinson’s can be slowed or stopped. Both organisations rely heavily on fundraising to continue this important work, so if you would like to donate and support them on this momentous challenge, you can do so by following this link: Southsea Scullers GoFundMe

Adam grew up in Surrey, attending Aberdour and Epsom College, while Henry went to school in Croydon at Margaret Roper Catholic Primary School and Whitgift. Sam, another member of the team, attended Little Gaddesden Primary School and Tring School. Many of our families may recognise these local areas or share similar memories of those school years. Seeing individuals from familiar communities take on something so vast for causes rooted in care and remembrance is deeply meaningful.

Before the team even reaches the starting point in La Gomera, there is significant preparation involved. Training takes place on land and at sea, along with time spent learning how to live safely in an environment where rest, movement and decision making must be shared. The experience requires shared trust, communication and steady focus.

We will be following the Southsea Scullers as they continue their training and once they begin their journey across the Atlantic. Families who would like to follow along can find updates on Instagram at @southseascullers.

We are proud to support this challenge and hope their journey encourages others to recognise the strength that grows when people move forward together with purpose and care. If you would like to donate yourself to their GoFundMe page you can do via this link: Southsea Scullers GoFundMe
