At Fennies, we are committed to offering outstanding opportunities for growth and development in Early Years education. Our partnership with Realise is an important part of this commitment, providing training, qualifications and ongoing support to our team. We spoke with Rachael, Karen and Jessica from Realise about the impact of this collaboration and what it means for the future of Early Years professionals.
About The Partnership
Can You Tell Us A Bit About Realise And The Work You Do In Early Years Education?

Realise has been delivering Early Years training for over 40 years and is now one of the leading providers of apprenticeships and qualifications in the sector. We work with a wide range of organisations, from independent nurseries to larger nursery groups like Fennies.
We support individuals new to the sector through Skills Bootcamps and offer Level 2, Level 3 and Level 5 qualifications. We also run specialist programmes including SENCO training. Our senior leadership team all have backgrounds in Early Years and bring decades of experience into everything we do.
At Realise we pride ourselves on being approachable and people-focused. Our training is delivered both online and in person through local trainers who understand the practical nature of the role. The partnership function is designed to build meaningful relationships with nursery groups. This helps us shape our programmes to reflect each setting’s curriculum and values.
What Shared Values Do Realise And Fennies Bring To The Table?
From the beginning, there was a strong connection between Realise and Fennies. Both organisations are committed to providing the best outcomes for children and families. Everyone we meet at Fennies seems proud to be part of the organisation. That aligns with our own purpose, which is to give apprentices and partners the very best experience.
We also have a shared commitment for quality. Both teams are driven by the need to improve and never settle for anything less than that. There is a willingness to reflect and ask what else can be done. We both care deeply about helping apprentices become skilled and confident educators.
Benefits And Impact
How Does This Partnership Support Apprentices And Early Years Educators At Fennies?

Our partnership structure allows us to give focused attention to larger nursery groups. This means we can build stronger relationships, understand the curriculum in more detail and adjust our delivery to suit the needs of each team.
What Sort Of Training And Qualifications Are Available Through Realise For Fennies Employees?
Fennies employees have access to a range of qualifications including Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships. Level 5 courses are also available for those who are ready to step into leadership roles. In addition to these qualifications, we offer targeted programmes such as SENCO training to support professional development.
Quality And Outcomes
How Do You Ensure High Standards And Outcomes In The Training You Deliver?

Everything starts with the design of the curriculum. From the outset, we wanted to go beyond the minimum and create a programme that would build the knowledge and confidence needed for outstanding practice.
We use performance data and learner feedback to guide improvements. Our curriculum leads and trainers continuously test the content to ensure it is relevant and effective. With over 100 trainers across the country, support is available both online and in person. Learners know who to contact and are never left without clear guidance.
What Impact Have You Seen On Fennies Teams Or Settings As A Result Of The Partnership?
We have seen a strong increase in internal team members taking up apprenticeships. The introduction of Level 5 opportunities has added even more value to what was already in place.
The team is more engaged and confident. The results from the latest employee engagement surveys have been very positive. The teams feel that they have a voice in shaping the training, and they know it is relevant to their role so they feel like they have more ownership over their development.
Why Do You Think Investing In Training And Apprenticeships Is So Important In Early Years Education?
Training helps shape the future of the sector. Many senior leaders began their careers as apprentices and developed through hands-on experience supported by structured learning.
Because Early Years is a regulated sector, qualifications are essential. When apprentices feel supported, they stay and grow within the organisation. That early investment leads to stronger teams and better outcomes for children.
Looking Ahead
What’s Next For The Realise x Fennies Partnership?

We are excited to build on the work already in place. We are looking at new qualifications and course options. There are also plans to strengthen our offer for team members who speak English as a second language.
New apprenticeship standards and funding rules will come into effect soon. We are working closely with Fennies to prepare and adapt so that the changes lead to positive outcomes. We are also planning to create new ways to keep the team informed, including the possibility of a podcast or regular newsletter.
What Advice Would You Give To Someone Thinking About Starting An Early Years Career Through An Apprenticeship At Fennies?

Karen: Appreciate the privilege of the work. There is real joy to be found in every part of the day and it supports your growth both personally and professionally.
