I’ve noticed that this attitude helps shape the atmosphere around me, helping both children and the team feel supported and more confident in whatever they are doing.

What Helps You Stay Connected With Your Communities?

I prioritise building strong connections with the families at our nursery. I organise quarterly parent events so families can meet the team and see the nursery in action, all whilst feeling like an integral part of the community. These events allow me to listen to parents so I can understand their priorities and create an environment where families feel welcomed and valued.

What’s Something You Have Loved About Your Early Years Career So Far?

One of my favourite moments was being invited to join a panel with Lorraine to discuss men in Early Years education. It was an opportunity to share my experiences and contribute to conversations about diversity and inclusion in the sector. Experiences like that remind me that my role extends beyond the nursery and that I can help influence positive change in Early Years education.

What’s Your Ambition To Help Improve The Early Years Sector?

I want to create a nursery environment where children feel safe and able to grow emotionally and socially. When people feel valued and supported, they are more engaged, and that energy carries through into the experiences we provide for the children.

What’s One Way You Help To Upskill Your Team?

I take a hands-on approach to supporting my team. I provide guidance whenever possible but can also step into situations to offer advice if needed. I consciously make myself available whenever help is needed. I believe that learning is continuous, and I want to create an environment where the team feels comfortable asking questions. We’re all learning simultaneously, so it’s good to be experimenting with new ideas and growing in different areas together.

What Passions Do You Have Within The Early Years Curriculum?

Watching children transform simple objects into imaginative projects and seeing their joy in discovery reminds me why Early Years education is so rewarding. I want children to feel a sense of wonder in everything they do.

What Kind Of Leader Are You?

I see myself as an adaptable leader. I understand that every team member has different needs, strengths and ways of learning. My goal is to understand each person and support them in a way that helps them achieve their potential. I listen, adjust, and make sure my guidance is practical and meaningful.
