Research has found that Cubetto can support young children's sequencing, cause-and-effect, early numeracy and collaborative computational thinking when used as part of purposeful play.
The Cubetto challenge

Children create personalised maps using photographs of their friends, families, nursery rooms or familiar places in their local community.
Their challenge is simple: Can you programme Cubetto to reach the right destination?
Here's how the activity works:
1. Explore - Children get to know Cubetto and explore what each direction block does.
They can test the blocks, predict what will happen and begin to understand how each action affects Cubetto's movement.
2. Plan - Children choose a destination and work out how Cubetto will get there.
They are encouraged to think through their route before placing the coding blocks onto the control board.
3. Programme - The children create their sequence and set Cubetto off.
Now they can see whether their plan works in practice.
4. Problem-Solve - What if Cubetto doesn't reach the destination?
Children look at what happened, identify where their sequence went wrong and decide what they could change.
5. Try again - Children adjust their code and test it again.

1. Baking together

Age: 2-5 years
Try it: Let your child help weigh ingredients, count spoonfuls and follow the recipe step by step.
Learning: Measuring, counting, sequencing and cause & effect.
Parent tip: Ask, “What do you think will happen if we add too much?”
2. Follow the route
Age: 3-5 years
Try it: Create a simple route around your home or garden. Give your child directions such as “forward”, “turn left” and “stop” to help someone reach a destination.
Learning: Sequencing, logical thinking and communication.
Parent tip: Let your child take the lead and create a route for you to follow.
3. What happens next?
Age: 2-4 years
Try it: Choose an everyday routine, such as making breakfast, and ask your child to put the steps in the right order.
Develops: Sequencing, memory and reasoning.
Parent tip: If they get the order wrong, ask, “What do you think would happen if we did that first?”
4. Float or sink?
Age: 3-5 years
Try it: Make a prediction before trying something simple, such as which objects will float or sink.
Develops: Curiosity, observation and scientific thinking.
Parent tip: The prediction doesn't need to be right. Talk about what happened and why.
5. Build a tower
Age: 2-5 years
Try it: Use blocks, boxes or recycled materials to build the tallest tower you can. What happens when you add another piece?
