Explore The Nursery
Our nursery in Reading has been meticulously designed with environments that support every stage of a child’s development. Standout features at Fennies Reading are its Cooking Studio and Art Studio, dedicated spaces where young chefs can explore the culinary world and young budding artists can experiment with different colours and textures.
All our furniture is exclusively sourced from Community Playthings, known for their high-quality, child-focused designs. With features such as pinch-free hinges, rounded corners, and sustainably sourced materials finished with non-toxic, water-based coatings, every piece is built with children’s safety, comfort and wellbeing in mind.
Our Reading nursery is equipped with purpose-built rooms tailored for each age group, providing a calm, engaging environment where children can learn, grow and thrive at their own pace.
Explorers Rooms

At Fennies Reading, we’re fortunate to have two Explorers Rooms specially designed for children aged 3 months to 18 months. During this early stage of development, children begin to crawl, pull themselves up and explore their physical capabilities. Our room layouts are thoughtfully designed to support these milestones, while also encouraging sensory discovery and early communication.
Each Explorers Room features a calming sensory area to help children relax and engage with their environment. With direct access to nappy changing facilities and milk kitchens, our team can ensure comfort and care throughout the day. A 1:3 team ratio in these rooms means every child receives personal attention and builds a strong, trusting relationship with their key person. On the ground floor they have a dedicated baby garden that allows them to explore and develop their physical motor skills.
Discoverers Room
The Discoverers Room is ideal for children aged 18 to 24 months, a time when their personalities start to shine through and their curiosity grows rapidly. This spacious, adaptable room allows for a wide range of activities tailored to children's changing interests, helping them explore independently and with confidence.
With a 1:3 ratio, our team offers a high level of individual care, and our dedicated nappy changing facilities and milk kitchen help streamline daily routines. The room is designed to balance comfort and adventure, supporting language, physical and social development.
Creators Room
The Creators Room supports children aged 2 to 3 years and is all about encouraging communication, social interaction and independence. At this age, children begin to take on small responsibilities, such as helping at mealtimes or tidying their space, and the room’s setup supports this emerging autonomy.
Operating with a 1:5 ratio, the room also features a shared bathroom space with the Discoverers as the children start learning to become toilet trained and develop self-hygiene routines.
Inventors Rooms

Our Inventors Rooms cater to children aged 3 to 5 years, providing a stimulating and open space that prepares them for the transition to school. This room supports a wide range of learning experiences rooted in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths), allowing children to investigate, problem-solve, and express themselves creatively.
With a 1:8 team ratio, children have the freedom to develop independence while still receiving close support. The room includes real-life resources and has free-flow access to the garden, allowing for seamless indoor-outdoor learning.
Garden

The garden at Fennies Reading is a vibrant and well-equipped space designed to extend learning beyond the classroom. With features like a forest garden, sand pit and race track, children are encouraged to explore, take turns and connect with nature. This outdoor environment plays a key role in supporting physical development and social skills.
Cooking Studio

One of the standout features at our Reading nursery is the dedicated cooking studio. This innovative space gives children daily opportunities to develop practical life skills and encourages creativity and curiosity around food. The children learn to measure ingredients, follow instructions, and work collaboratively, building their mathematical thinking, fine motor skills and confidence in processes.
Art Studio
Fennies Reading is also home to a dedicated art studio, an inspiring space where children can express themselves freely and explore their creativity. Whether they’re experimenting with colour, texture or different materials, the art studio encourages self-expression and imaginative thinking. It’s a calming and engaging environment where young artists can take pride in their creations and develop confidence through the arts.
Education at Fennies
We recognise that a child’s first five years are crucial for their development. That’s why we uphold the highest standards at Fennies Reading, Rose Kiln Lane, by conducting quarterly quality audits. These are led by our Regional Managers in collaboration with Rageena, our Director of Early Years, to ensure excellence and consistency across all our nurseries.
Specialist Education

Our Specialist Education Team, which includes our SENCO Specialist, Art Specialist and Education Advisor, enriches the learning experience through exciting initiatives. Children explore creativity through ‘Artist of the Month,’ develop a love for reading with ‘Book of the Month,’ and gain hands-on experiences during community outings like library visits and nature walks. Our Lending Library also gives families access to a wide range of books to enjoy together at home, supporting early literacy development.
Parent App
Our Famly App keeps you closely connected with your child’s day. From nappy changes and sleep routines to mealtimes and learning milestones, you’ll receive real-time updates straight to your phone. The app also provides instant notifications about nursery news, upcoming events and important reminders, so you’re always in the loop and never miss a moment.
Safety and Security

At Fennies Reading, Rose Kiln Lane, your child’s safety is our top priority. We have a robust and secure entry system in place, ensuring that only recognised parents, carers, or authorised members of our team are granted access to the nursery. Hygiene
We are dedicated to maintaining 5-star cleanliness and hygiene throughout our Reading nursery, ensuring every space is kept in exceptional condition. By following rigorous protocols, we uphold high standards to create a safe and healthy environment where your child can explore, play and learn with confidence. Two dedicated housekeepers attend the setting each evening to thoroughly clean the facilities, and every quarter, a deep clean of the entire nursery is carried out to ensure the highest levels of hygiene are consistently met.
Food At Fennies

Alongside the exciting cooking studio where children can explore and experiment with ingredients, Fennies Reading is proud to have an on-site chef who prepares fresh, nutritious meals each day. Our menus rotate twice a year to reflect the changing seasons and are accredited by the Early Years Alliance (EYA), ensuring we follow a consistent, evidence-based approach to healthy eating practices within the nursery.
We believe that food plays a vital role in children’s overall well-being. That’s why we cater to all individual dietary needs, including allergies and preferences, to create an inclusive and positive environment where children can learn about food, nutrition and healthy habits from an early age.
