How To Make A Pine Cone Bird Feeder - Outdoor Nature Craft For Children
Watch your feathered friends visit the garden to snack on the tasty bird feeders your children have made! This simple, fun activity is perfect for preschoolers to explore wildlife and nature.

What you need:
- Large Pine Cones
- Peanut Butter (or allergy-safe alternatives*)
- Bird Seed
- Twine or String
- Butter Knife or Lollipop Sticks
- Paper Plate or Paper Towels
- Small Bowls
- Scissors
- 30cm Ruler
- Fruit Pieces (Optional)
What to do:
- Clean Pine Cones: Rinse pine cones in a small bowl to remove any dirt.
- Cut String: Use scissors to cut 30cm lengths of string, one per pine cone.
- Tie String: Tie a piece of string tightly around each pine cone, leaving one end free for hanging later.
- Spread Your Butter: Place a paper plate on the table. Spread your butter onto the pine cone with a knife or stick, pressing into the crevices.
- Add Bird Seed: Dip the pine cone into a bird seed bowl or sprinkle the seeds on with a spoon. Add optional fruit pieces if desired.
- Hang Outside: Tie the feeder to a branch in a shady, safe spot where birds can visit (and the children can watch!)
