ST. AUGUSTINES NURSERY

St Augustine’s nursery is located in South Croydon and was refurbished two and a half years ago into a modern and fully equipped nursery. As well as being located in a residential area where there are no parking restrictions there are also convenient parking spaces at the front of the nursery which allows the dropping off and collection of your child to be done in a safe manner. In addition to CCTV recording 24 hours a day we use a key pad entry system which allows parents or authorised carers of Fennies children to gain access into the nursery.

The nursery is within a ten minute walk from South Croydon train station and the 60, 166, 312, 407, 468 and 466 buses stop a few minutes walk away.

We are open Monday to Friday between 7.45am and 6pm, 51 weeks of the year, and we close for Bank Holidays and a week at Christmas.

On the ground floor we have our baby unit in two rooms for children aged between 3 months and 2 years which are spacious fully air-conditioned filled with bright soft furnishings and wonderful up-to-date resources. The first room is for babies from three months to one year old. The room has bright eye catching displays and large mirrors so the babies can watch themselves as they play. The next room is for babies aged between one to two years of age. The staff ratio in these rooms is 1:3. Included in their daily routine are story time, singing, puppets and musical instruments.

Each child is encouraged to develop and use their senses by exploring different textures with messy play, sand, water and painting. Fennies at St Augustine’s prides itself in its friendly staff and offer high class childcare. Each room has a fully qualified room leader who leads their team in providing age appropriate stimulating activities which encourage the children to explore their environment. Opposite is the milk kitchen where babies bottles are stored and prepared. This is for use purely by the baby room staff. We have a baby change area in the room next door where nappies are changed. During this time the staff interact by talking or singing to make nappy change an enjoyable experience.

The first floor is the pre-school unit which has two rooms which operate as free flowing so the children can access all areas throughout the day. The main room is the playroom where there is a writing area so the children have access to pens, pencils, scissors rulers and paper at all times.

There is a quiet book area for children who wish to relax and read a story or do a puzzle. The room is set out differently every day and the toys are changed regularly to keep the children’s interest. The staff ratio for pre-schoolers is 1:8.

We have an outside area which is a soft play area. As well as having bikes and scooters the garden has chalk boards, a large train where we go on all sorts of adventures and a picnic table and other visual aids. All this helps to aid in your child’s time with us being a fun experience.

Police Visit
As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding children and making links with the wider community we invited the police in to the setting to talk to the children about stranger danger.

The children got to try on police hats and jackets and listen to the police radios. The children had a lot of fun asking the police people different questions and listening to stories and information that the police provided.

The children enjoyed the real life experience of meeting a police person and have continued to ask questions about them ever since. The visit was a huge success and we are now looking to make it possible for the toddler rooms to have the same experience by inviting the police to come back and speak with the toddler age children.
